Details
Winnipeg was just one of 33 Canadian cities and towns to experience general strikes in 1919. So why no general strike in Ottawa? Ottawa came close. Four major attempts were made to convince the local labour movement but no general strike occurred.
Brian McDougall takes us back to that turbulent post-war era of extreme labour unrest and explores the defeat of the radicals and the implications of that moment in our city's history for our understanding of the underlying social tensions of 1919 Ottawa.
