Guest Speaker
SISTER LOUISE CHARBONNEAU, Sister of Charity (Grey Nuns) of Ottawa
Details
By sleigh along the frozen Ottawa River came Elisabeth Bruyere (aged 26) leading a handful young Grey Nuns to Bytown from Montreal. Within three months of their arrival in rough 'n tumble 1845 Bytown, young Mother Bruyere and her entourage had founded a school, a general hospital, a home for the aged and an orphanage. Within two more years, Bruyere and the Sisters would defy risk of deadly contagion and tend to the stricken as Bytown found itself in the midst of a severe typhus epidemic. Learn the remarkable story of (the now Venerable) Elisabeth Bruyere and her pioneering determination, compassion, undying faith and incredible achievements in early Bytown.
Light refreshments will be served in the auditorium lobby starting at 6.30pm, with the talk to follow at 7:00pm.
All are welcome to attend without charge.
