Jos Montferrand - Roi des forêts de l'Outaouais ou piler de taverne?

French-language
Free

Guest Speaker

Michel Prévost, renowned regional historian, heritage advocate, Outaouais Historical Society President, and recipient of several scholarships

Details

The Ottawa Valley has the privilege of being associated with a legendary figure whose fame goes far beyond the region's borders. This folklore giant spent half his life here, attracted by the forestry industry. He became a lumberjack, log driver, site foreman, and master raftsman. This presentation will demystify him by exploring the different facets of this larger-than-life character. Come discover his exploits, including the famous battle on the Union (Chaudières) Bridge where he alone beat more than 150 Shiners, strong-arm Irishmen. Finally, we will demonstrate that there are still many traces of him in our folklore, toponymy, and monuments.

Admission is free. All are welcome to attend.

Please note: this presentation will be conducted in French.
