HSO members and guests are invited to hear students of the University of Ottawa’s Canadian Digital History Class present their projects analyzing the work of our Society’s early members.
Between its foundation in 1898 and 1955, members of the WCHSO (The Women's Canadian Historical Society of Ottawa) dedicated themselves to preserving, producing, and sharing historical knowledge about the city and valley of Ottawa. Among the activities of the Women’s Canadian Historical Society of Ottawa, our early members produced scrapbooks containing a wealth of archival documents, primarily newspaper clippings.
How were women of the Historical Society of Ottawa contributing to collection and archival practices? And, through this work, how were they preserving the history of Canada’s marginalized communities? These are some of the questions driving students’ research and projects throughout this semester.
